About Mell and her Practices

Mellissa Matthews PGCert, BSc (Hons), MIRVAP, MRAMP, MCHA, MCSP, MHCPC

Mell has worked as Chartered Physiotherapist since 2008, and being an animal lover and agility enthusiast, motivated her to gain a Post Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Rehabilitation and Hydrotherapy through the Nottingham Veterinary School, to bring together her passion for rehabilitation and animals.

Having a degree in Sports and Exercise Science, a Chartered Physiotherapist and Veterinary Physiotherapist, as well as training and competing in agility, Mell is able to draw on years of study and experience to treat dogs from a variety of backgrounds. Mell appreciates the stresses and strains on dogs bodies during different working and non-working roles and formulates a treatment plan based on this.

By providing water based physiotherapy, this service offers another layer to the treatment. It helps with calming by adding proprioceptive information into the dogs body that helps them relax during the session. This enables them to get even more benefits from the physiotherapy treatment. It also adds buoyancy so it makes it easier for older dogs to feel comfortable during the session but used can add resistance for performance enhancement. All musculoskeletal or neurological conditions have the potential to be treated both on land and in the water to gain the most affect for each patient.

Mell believes that in order for her patients to have the most effective treatment and successful recovery, it needs to be a comfortable and positive experience for both pet and owner alike.
